Understanding that children at this special school share the same aspirations as other children was the foundation to design a welcoming space of comfort- a space that is familiar and a space that engages these curious minds.
Beginning with the idea of blending the important elements of our connectivity to any space, we used colour, shapes and texture to create an environment that was visually informative, interactive and that stimulated the mind through active engagement. With significant consideration given to accessibility, navigation through any space using any medium had to be hurdle/obstacle free. We used the bare walls of the corridors to enhance the physical experience that helps these children relate to their emotions, support their development and most importantly be comfortable with their abstract ideas and concepts of the world, both outside and within these four walls.
